Dr. John Tanton's father was a champion corn grower. Dr. John Tanton's father, John F. Tanton, was given the Dekalb Corn Growing Award in 1953. His yield was 134.5 bushels per acre; the next highest yield in the contest was 97.21 bushels. He was an agricultural innovator.
Raised on a family homesteaded farm, Dr. John Tanton
developed a love of the land and a sense of place.
